Jai Uttal and The Pagan Love Choir at The Marin Showcase Theater
Sat, Aug 24, 2019 @ 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm UTC-7
Grammy nominee and World Music pioneer Jai Uttal presents an intimate acoustic performance of inspiring songs and devotional chants. Jai will accompany himself on a variety of instruments and be supported by a choir of four amazing singers: Sandy Cressman, Prajna Vieira, Lucia Lilikoi and Sandy Griffith.
Celebration, meditation, dance of the devas, love song to the universe…
This concert will be a unique opportunity to hear Jai’s music performed by a heavenly rainbow of five exquisite voices. All veterans of The Pagan Love Orchestra, Prajna, Lucia and the two Sandys will share their transcendent vocal visions of Jai’s songs and bring the ‘music of the spheres’ to the beloved Marin Showcase Theater. Playing guitar, banjo, harmonium and more, Jai will be acoustic and ‘unplugged’, creating an intimate and mystical environment in which to share his songs and his soul. This completely new experience promises to be a treat for the ears and the heart.
Jai Uttal has been rightly hailed as a world music pioneer. Singer, multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer, he was among the first to hear the universal heartbeat in the variegated rhythms of the globe. His powerful, passionate voice and panoramic musical vision have placed him at the forefront of the ‘Bhakti’ movement in the West, performing and leading the yoga community’s tradition of call-and response devotional chanting for 50 years.
Before Yoga schools became music venues and the first Yoga Festivals had even been imagined, Jai was bringing what he calls ‘World Spirit Music’ to nightclubs and music festivals around the globe with his visionary band ‘The Pagan Love Orchestra’. His first album, ‘Footprints’, literally created the international World Music Charts, which he has consistently topped with a string of 20 highly acclaimed CDs. Crisscrossing the world with concerts and workshops, Jai has brought his healing and uplifting songs and chants to concert halls, festivals, ashrams, prisons and orphanages. He is featured in the recent film ‘Mantra – Sounds Into Silence’, sharing devotional chants with the men at San Quentin Prison in California. Jai’s dedication to the path of Bhakti and to his Guru, Neem Karoli Baba, has informed his entire adult life. He looks forward to sharing this unique, one-of-a-kind event with you.
