I’m Jai Uttal, a Grammy-nominated composer, musician, and singer. My heart, mind and music are filled with the rhythms and melodies of India and the rock, jazz, reggae and Appalachian music upon which I was raised since early childhood. My travels through India, where I met incredible saints, musicians, and my guru, Neem Karoli Baba, led me to embrace Bhakti Yoga, the yoga of the heart, which I’ve been sharing for over 50 years.
Throughout these many decades, I’ve had the great fortune to travel the world offering my music through concerts and a multitude of albums, and to create safe and sacred spaces where everyone can open their hearts and discover the innate, joyful beauty of their own voices.

Over the course of the last several decades, many people have asked me: “When will you write your memoir so your legacy can be passed onto future generations?” Well, I’ve certainly thought about it and, who knows, someday I may just do it. But, in truth, my legacy lives in my songs and albums. Every tear, celebration, heartbreak, and exultation has been expressed in these words, mantras, and melodies.
